Okay, so I am slow at learning new things...

I did it! I did my first two shuttle tatting!! (okay, the laughter can quit any time...really, any time now... There, feeling better?) I have been tatting for one and a half years and have never tried it! My first experience was the clover on the middle purple round. Woohoo, you say? Well, I am happy with my first branching out! LOL

This is an Easter pin that I made the night before Easter--so I did it in a hurry. I found the pattern on the internet, and didn't read that it called for 2 shuttles until AFTER I turned off the computer! So, I put on my big girl panties and gave it a go! I can't remember whose pattern it is, so if I find it here soon, I will post the link. It measures about 2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. I made it with size 80 DMC thread and placed it on a piece of fabric with interfacing on the back. Then I sewed on a pin back. I think it turned out nice!

For Amy!

A friend of mine mailed me some clothing for my daughter, and in exchange, I made her a doily to give her mom for Mother's Day. Hopefully, they like it!!! (as a note for Amy, the colors are not as bright as they look in the picture. I would say the blue is more of a country blue and the yellow is lighter...the camera does funny things to my pictures! LOL) It measures about 7 inches across. The pattern is from Tatting Patterns and Designs by Gun Blomqvist and Elwy Persson. It's called Flowery Meadow. I used size 20 DMC Cebelia thread. I am quite pleased with it!!

Still tatting away!

Well, I made a bookmark from my new Konior book...and I really like it...Haven't had a chance to take a picture of it yet. I have to make 10 MORE hearts for that retreat this month! I am so excited because that means more ladies will be blessed with this event! I am also working on a light blue and yellow doily for a friend to give her mom for Mother's Day. I will get a picture of the doily and the bookmark when I get the doily done!

Until next time.....

More fun antique hunting...

Today my husband and I went out to our favorite antique stores...I am always in search of some new tatting shuttles or other's tatted works.
This one I found in a bin without a price tag...I asked on a price and was quoted $2.00. SCORE!!!
It measures 11 1/2 inches from tip to tip...and looks to be made of somewhere between size 50 and size 80 thread.
I noticed in the center that the tatter didn't know how to do the center join...they made 6 rings and the first and last rings each have a picot. I washed it and blocked it...but didn't starch it so I could store it until I know what I want to do with it. However, if anyone knows how to get a yellowed color out of the rings (only in the rings...weird huh?) I would love to know! I tried Woolite, dishsoap, all fabric bleach, oxyclean...and soaked it for awhile...

I also found a hankie that I washed and blocked...it is just a white hankie with a tatted yellow border. Unless someone lets me know that they want to see all my tatted hankies that I have bought...I will refrain from posting the pictures.
I almost forgot--if anyone knows where the pattern originates from, I would LOVE to know! Thanks!

My largest project to date...

Okay, so the pictures are looking kind of blurry...not sure why. This is the largest project that I have made to date.
It measures 9 inches across and was made with size 80 DMC tatting thread. For some reason, it looks like it is tan or off white in color. It is completely white!
It's designed by Eileen Stafford...someone whose patterns I really like. They are on the website at the above link.
Now, on to tatting out of my newest book (Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior)...oh what to make, what to make... Keep checking back and see!

Okay, so I've been MIA on this blog...

With the holidays and other things going on, I haven't had much time to post anything! So sorry...Although, I must say that I don't know if anyone even LOOKS at this but me! LOL
I have been a busy tatter...I am over 3/4 finished with one doily..I put it on hold while I worked on the hearts at the bottom of this post.

I finished one doily but there was more to the pattern that I just didn't do! I couldn't figure it out...I may at some point go back and try again, but for now, it looks great to me!! The pattern is from Tatting with Anne Orr. It's on page 10--the Round Doily Set. It's the small doily..it measures approx. 5 3/4 inches when made with size 80 thread. I used DMC tatting thread.

This doily I found for $1.00 at the local flea market. There are some minor condition issues, but overall it looks pretty good. It measures approx 8 1/2 inches across. It looks to be made with a size 30 thread or so. Not really sure.

This is a heart pattern that was in the current Handy Hands catalog. I really like it! It measures about 2 1/4 by 2 inches when made with size 30 thread. I made 36 of them for an upcoming retreat...except they were with size 80 thread. I wanted something small that could be tucked in a Bible or a purse or something. I had fun making them--although they took me longer than I thought that they would.
